Hiking trails along Mount Kahuzi, at 3308m, as the highest peak in the park from Tshivanga you take a 20 minutes’ drive to the Kahuzi Patrol Post, the second entrance to the park and the point of departure for the trip. The climb takes 4 hours as you come across an attractive bamboo forest before entering a dry vegetation of heather, senecios and at the summit a splendid view of Lake Kivu and the Bukavu town awaits giving visitors a more memorable experience. Hiking along Mount Biega, which is the second highest peak in the park. The vegetation is completely different from that of mount Kahuzi walking through an impressive formation of giant heather that gives visitors a remarkable experience.
Birding in Kahuzi-Biega National Park
Kahuzi-Biega National Park is one of the destinations rich in bird life species but sometimes it’s possible to walk for one and a half hours without spotting any bird species. It’s a home to various distinctive bird species like Rockefeller’s sunbird which brings delight on earth, Ruwenzori Turacos, Trogons, Horn bills species and sun birds.
The encounter with the chimpanzees is another amazing and memorable experience while on a Congo gorilla safari. Like the gorillas, the chimpanzees move several kilometers in a day searching for food and in the evening they build nests in the trees to spend their night. The chimpanzee is other species of ape in Kahuzi-Biega National Park, they are so shy in that encountering them can be by chance.
